Carlos Alberto Silva has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Carlos Alberto most recently served as the Director of Strategic Engagement at the Organization for Tropical Studies. Prior to that, they worked at The Washington Post as the International Advertising Manager for Europe, Latin America, Caribbean, Canada, and the Middle East. Carlos Alberto also held positions at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) as the Assistant Vice President for International affairs, and at the Embassy of Costa Rica to the United States as Minister Counselor for Trade, Investment, and Tourism. Additionally, Silva worked at the Costa Rica Ministry of Tourism as a Senior Advisor to the Minister and at Costa Rica Investment and Development as a Supervisor for Investment Promotion.
Carlos Alberto Silva has a comprehensive education history. Carlos Alberto obtained a Graduate Certificate in International Business Management from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business in 2004. Prior to that, they completed a Graduate Certificate in International Marketing at Universidad de Costa Rica UCR in 1990. Between 1987 and 1989, they participated in the MPhil Program in Development Studies at the University of Sussex. Additionally, Carlos obtained a Graduate Certificate in Development, Planning, and Public Policy from the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES / UN ECLAC) in an unspecified year before 1986. As part of their undergraduate studies, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Duke University, which they attended from 1978 to 1983. Lastly, Carlos completed their high school education at St. Albans School for Boys from 1974 to 1978.
In addition to their formal education, Carlos holds a certification in Principles for reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments (PREIA) obtained from the Inter-American Development Bank in October 2020.
