Outi Vaarala

Outi Vaarala has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and research industry. Outi is currently serving as the Senior Vice President and Head of Innovative Medicines Business and R&D at Orion Corporation. Previously, they held the position of Senior Vice President and Head of R&D at Orion Corporation and VP Oncology Research. Before joining Orion Corporation, they worked as the Senior Director of Research at MedImmune. Prior to that, they held various leadership positions at AstraZeneca, including VP and Head of Lung Immunity and VP and Head of Translational Science. Outi Vaarala has also contributed to the National Institute for Health and Welfare, where they served as the Director of the Department of Vaccinations and Immune Protection, as well as a Research Professor and Head of the Immune Response Unit. Outi has also worked as a Permanent Expert at the European Medicines Agency and held a professorship in pediatric immunology at Linköping University.

Outi Vaarala obtained an MD and PhD in medicine and immunology from the University of Helsinki, where they studied from 1982 to 1991.
