Orleans Public Defenders
Catherine Rieder currently serves as a Supervising Attorney at Orleans Public Defenders since January 2020, following their role as Executive Director at Roots of Renewal from June 2018 to December 2019, where Catherine led initiatives focused on the reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals through workforce development programs. Prior to that, Catherine managed a private practice from August 2014 to August 2018, representing clients in various criminal matters in Orleans Parish, and held positions as a Student Practitioner at Loyola Law Clinic and Law Clerk at Orleans Public Defenders and the City Attorney's Office of Kenner. Catherine's early career includes a judicial internship at the Parish of Orleans Criminal District Court and work as a Legal Secretary at Tulane Avenue Law Center. Catherine earned a Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
