Senior Soil And Climate Scientist at Osmose Utilities Services

Matthew Cowen began their work experience as an intern at IAGT in 2011. Matthew then became a technician, geospatial analyst, and equipment operator at Ashland Farms from 2007 to 2011. In 2012, they worked as an intern at the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, where they conducted soil analysis and developed GIS analysis packages. From 2014 to 2017, Matthew worked as a graduate student and teaching assistant at SUNY-ESF, teaching forest soils lab and conducting field sampling and laboratory analysis. In 2017, they were the owner of Oak Environmental Consulting LLC. Currently, Matthew is working at Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. as a soil and climate scientist, starting in 2018 and becoming a senior scientist in March 2020.

Matthew Cowen attended Cayuga County Community College from 2009 to 2011, where they obtained an Associate's Degree in Geographic Information Systems. Matthew then pursued their Bachelor of Science (BS) with Honors in Environmental Science/Watershed Science at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry from 2011 to 2014.

In addition to their formal education, Matthew Cowen has obtained certifications in Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt from the Six Sigma Global Institute in June 2022 and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control - IT from EnviroCert International, Inc. The specific month and year of obtaining the latter certification are not provided.
