Abid Jan has extensive work experience in various roles related to community development, capacity building, and program management. Abid is currently serving as the Director of Community Safety and Wellbeing at Ottawa Police Service, where they are responsible for establishing and overseeing community development plans and projects. Prior to this, Abid held positions as the Director of Capacity Building at United Way East Ontario - Centraide de l'Est de l'Ontario and United Way/Centraide Ottawa, where they provided leadership in program management and funding allocation for building resilient and safer communities. Abid also has experience as a CDC Community Development Framework Advisor at the City of Ottawa, where they supported the development of a collaborative framework for community development. Abid's earlier roles include serving as an Executive Director at IRSP Integrated Regional Support Program and a National Coordinator at US Fish and Wildlife Service. Throughout their career, Abid has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, program evaluation, resource management, and capacity building.
Abid Jan holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Environmental Management, which was obtained from the University of London from 1994 to 1997. Prior to that, Abid Jan completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Peshawar between 1986 and 1988. Additionally, Abid Jan has earned several certifications, including Project Management for Development Professionals (PMDPro) from APM Group in February 2015, Exploring Enterprise GIS: A Workshop for Leaders from Esri Canada in August 2012, and Create Data Visualizations Using Smart Mapping in ArcGIS, also from Esri Canada, in August 2011.
