Shawn Zhang has over 20 years of experience in engineering and simulation roles. Shawn is currently serving as the Director of Engineering, CAE & Simulation at Our Next Energy (ONE), where they lead the CAE and simulation team in various functional areas, including battery cell modeling, structural simulations, thermal/CFD simulations, and BMS SOC/SOP/SOH algorithms. Prior to this, Shawn worked at A123 Systems as a Sr. Manager in Engineering Simulation & Algorithm Development, where they managed a multi-functional simulation team and was responsible for battery pack modeling strategies and advanced simulations. Shawn also worked as a Durability CAE Engineer at Chrysler Group LLC and a Lead FEA Engineer at A123 Systems. Shawn has experience in performing FEA analyses on battery pack, module, and component designs and has provided technical guidance to internal and external customers. Shawn started their career as a CAE Analyst at ZF Lemforder Corp, working on chassis/suspension components and systems. Before that, they worked at Engineering Technology Associates, Inc., where they served as an LS-DYNA & VPG Specialist and Project Engineer, performing FEA analyses in vehicle crash, safety, and durability areas. Shawn has a strong track record of providing technical support, guiding engineering software development, and delivering design improvements based on analysis results.
Shawn Zhang earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Donghua University in the years 1988 to 1992. Later, from 1997 to 1999, they pursued a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Shawn also obtained a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, although the specific start and end years are unknown.
