Mark Hermes

Mark Hermes is a Senior GNC Engineer at Outpost since December 2023, focusing on the development of physics simulators and flight algorithms for orbital navigation and autonomous paraglider guidance using Python and C++. Prior to this role, Mark served as a Satellite GNC Engineer and Control Systems Engineer at ThinKom Solutions, Inc., where responsibilities included designing a quaternion-based Kalman Filter in MATLAB and C for attitude estimation, and developing a phased-array controller for antenna signal synchronization. Earlier experience includes a Graduate Research Assistant position at the University of Southern California, where Mark implemented evolutionary algorithms for shape optimization and designed an underwater robot. Mark has also held internships in control systems engineering, software development, CAD design, and machining across various companies and academic institutions. Mark holds a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
