Peter Lyons

Head of Certification at Overair

Peter Lyons has extensive work experience in the aerospace and avionics industry. Peter is currently working as the Head of Certification at Overair, Inc., where they are involved in developing the next generation of commercial air transportation. Prior to this, they served as the Principal Consultant & President at Lyons & Co., Inc., providing executive level management services and technical assistance to aerospace organizations. Peter also held the role of President at Avionyx, a privately-held engineering company in Costa Rica, where they provided engineering design and verification services to the U.S. avionics industry.

Before their time at Avionyx, Lyons was the VP Product Management and Co-Founder at Aspen Avionics, where they led the Systems Engineering and Certification teams and managed FAA relationships. Peter also played a key role in founding the company and establishing its strategic product direction. Prior to Aspen Avionics, they worked as the Flight Test Manager at Eclipse Aviation and held various roles at Rockwell Collins, including Avionics Product Manager and Flight Test Engineer. Lyons started their career as an Engineering Team Lead at CAE Aviation and served as a Navigation Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Peter Lyons has a strong background in engineering and aerospace. Peter began their education at Royal Roads Military College from 1984 to 1986, where they studied Mechanical Engineering. Peter then moved to the Royal Military College of Canada/Collège militaire royal du Canada from 1986 to 1988 and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. After a few years, Peter pursued further specialization at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Studies from 1993 to 1994, completing the Aerospace Systems Course in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Peter obtained certification as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) from The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in 1996. Peter also became a licensed pilot through the Federal Aviation Administration in 1995.
