Anthony Bebbington

Tony is Australian Laureate Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Higgins Professor of Environment and Society at Clark University where he also served as Director of the Graduate School of Geography from 2010-17. Prior to that he was a professor at the University of Manchester and held academic positions at Cambridge University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has also been a social scientist at the World Bank on two separate occasions, and a research fellow at the Overseas Development Institute and the International Institute for Environment and Development. He has worked in the Andean countries since the late 1980s on issues of agriculture and rural development, farmer and indigenous organization, and the relationships between extractive industries, livelihoods and socio-environmental conflicts. He has also worked in El Salvador and Indonesia. Tony is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, has received distinguished scholarship honors from the Association of American Geographers and has been a Guggenheim Fellow and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences. He is a graduate of Cambridge University and Clark University
