Walaa Mohamed has a diverse work experience in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, immunology, and wound healing. Walaa started their career as a research assistant at Khalifa University in 2013 and then moved on to work as a research assistant at the University of Sharjah from 2015 to 2018. Walaa joined New York University Abu Dhabi as a visiting scholar in 2018, where they focused on human genetics diseases, immunology, and 3D wound healing models. In 2020, they became an R&D scientist at G42 Healthcare, where they worked until 2022. Currently, they are working as a Senior Field Application Scientist at Oxford Nanopore Technologies since 2022. Additionally, they will be taking on the role of Visiting Research Scientist at New York University Abu Dhabi starting in 2023, where they will provide consulting and support to the LIBRA lab's research projects with a focus on molecular biology techniques such as long read sequencing.
Walaa Mohamed obtained a Master's degree in Human genetics and forensic science from Manipal Academy of Higher Education - MAHE, Dubai in the years 2012-2013. Following this, from 2017-2020, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Genetics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
