Bala Shanmugam

Bala Shanmugam is an experienced technology leader with a comprehensive background in payment platforms and engineering. Currently serving as Director at p8.io since September 2023, Bala previously held the role of Head of Engineering - Developer Platform at Atlassian from November 2022 to August 2023. With over a decade at ANZ from May 2010 to October 2022, Bala led major technology transformations, managing $50M annually and overseeing over 350 professionals in diverse specializations, while modernizing payment systems that process $160 billion daily. Prior roles include Senior Technology Manager and Technology Manager at ANZ, where Bala was instrumental in developing innovative payment solutions and infrastructures. Earlier career experiences include Senior Application Architect at First Data Corporation and Consultant at Kanbay. Bala holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Madras Institute of Technology, completed in 2001.
