Daniel Portik is an accomplished bioinformatician with extensive experience in developing tools and resources for genomic applications. Currently serving as a Staff Scientist at PacBio since June 2020, Daniel focuses on bioinformatics solutions for shotgun metagenomics and collaborates on data analysis with industry partners and research labs. Previous positions include postdoctoral researcher roles at the California Academy of Sciences and the University of Arizona, where Daniel developed Python workflows to automate data processing and created a modular bioinformatics toolkit. Daniel earned a PhD in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds an MS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Villanova University, as well as a BS in Biology from John Carroll University.
