Jiawei Yan is an accomplished violist with extensive experience in symphonic performance and education. Currently serving as a Substitute Viola for the San Diego Symphony and the Pacific Symphony since May and September 2022, respectively, Jiawei is also the Guest Principal Viola for the New Jersey Festival Orchestra, leading a section of 10-12 players. Past roles include Substitute Viola with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Associate Principal Viola with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performance, Jiawei has held administrative responsibilities as a Graduate Assistant in the String Department at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, coordinating numerous events for over 800 students. An alumnus of The Juilliard School with a Master of Music in Viola Performance, Jiawei has pursued further education in music at Indiana University, working towards a Doctor of Music degree.
