Cecilia Barese M.D.

Cecilia Barese, MD, PhD has a diverse and extensive work experience. Cecilia is currently working as the Medical Director of Medical Strategy at Pacira BioSciences, Inc. starting from 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of Medical Director of Clinical Development at ACELYRIN, INC. from November 2022 to January 2023.

From 2017 to 2022, Dr. Barese worked at AVROBIO in various roles including Director of Clinical Development and Medical Monitoring, where they played a key role in trial conduct and monitored the efficacy and safety of investigational drugs. Cecilia also served as the Director of Analytics in the Translational Research Department, overseeing non-clinical studies and providing scientific oversight to the Pompe disease program.

Before joining AVROBIO, Dr. Barese worked at Children's National Health System as the GLP Cell Therapy Manager, supporting immunotherapy programs and conducting translational research. Cecilia also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, focusing on molecular analyses of genes involved in immunodeficiency diseases.

Dr. Barese's career began at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, where they worked as a Research Fellow. During this time, they conducted translational research on gene therapies and managed large animal study protocols.

Prior to their fellowship, Dr. Barese worked as a Visiting Scientist and Clinical Fellow in the Immunodeficiency Clinic at Riley Children's Hospital, Indiana University, where they conducted research on gene-modified bone marrow cells and evaluated the effectiveness of low-intensity marrow conditioning in achieving engraftment of gene-modified cells.

Cecilia Barese, MD, PhD has an extensive education history. Cecilia first earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario in an unspecified year. Following that, they pursued their PhD in the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology from the University of Buenos Aires, where they graduated Summa Cum Laude.

In 1999, Cecilia attended the Department of Pediatrics Allergy and Immunology at UCLA, where they spent eight consecutive months participating in both outpatient and inpatient services under supervision. Later, in 2005, they enrolled in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology at Riley Children's Hospital, Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. During their time there, they gained clinical experience in the outpatient clinic and inpatient service under supervision as part of an accredited program.

Additionally, Cecilia has obtained several certifications. Cecilia holds a Board in Pediatrics certification from the Sociedad Argentina de Pediatria. Cecilia is also an International Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB), certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Furthermore, they have completed the U.S.M.L.E. (United States Medical Licensing Examination) administered by ECFMG.
