Lew Maggio

Lew Maggio is the current Director of Network Operations at PacketFabric. Lew has been with the company for six years and six months, and has held various positions during their time there, including Director, Network Operations, Deployment Operations Lead, and more. Maggio has overseen the construction of a terabit scale software defined optical data transport network reaching every major data center in the continental United States. Lew has also planned and executed the installation of 231 individual routers, 61 network points of presence reaching 157 different data centers, 16 long haul optical backbone circuits connecting each metropolitan area with capacities between 100 and 200 gbps, and 28 dark fiber metro-ethernet rings with capacities between 10 gbps and 1 tbps. In addition, Maggio has specified requirements for software that manages the physical topology of the entire network and provisions physical connectivity to customers. Lew has also negotiated contracts with vendors, designed and contracted manufacturing of custom parts, and developed systems to automate materials estimation and creation of installation schematics.

Prior to their time at PacketFabric, Maggio spent eight years and seven months at ServerCentral as an Infrastructure Architect, Provisioning Director, Provisioning Engineer, Data Center Technician, and more. While at ServerCentral, they were responsible for specifying operation and building proof of concept for a bare metal cloud product based on software defined networking (VXLAN) and automated server provisioning. Lew also monitored capacity and pro-actively upgraded systems to accommodate customer growth of over 300%. In addition, Maggio documented standards and trained staff on deployment and operation of data center infrastructure systems. Lew also drafted design documents, wrote RFPs, and supervised vendors.

Maggio has designed and implemented data center solutions for CDW, USG, ABN-AMRO, DePaul University, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Mesirow Financial, Discovery Communications, TRUECar, Basecamp, Shopify, Outbrain, New Relic, Fieldglass and many other companies ranging in size from single person startups to fortune 100 companies. Lew has also managed provisioning teams and initialized policy, process, and workflow standardization within and between departments - improving turnaround time and ticket resolution up to 90%. Furthermore, Maggio has been responsible for all new service provisioning and customer onboarding. Lew has also overseen the implementation of data center products, servers, managed IT services, telecommunications circuits, and cloud solutions. In addition, Maggio has lead Project Manager for all internal and customer-related projects.

Lew Maggio is a Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) and Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) through BICSI.
