Peter Swarbrick has a diverse work experience in the film and broadcasting industry. Peter started their career at the BBC TV Film Department in 1980, where they worked as a Special Facilities Engineer/Manager. During their time there, they were involved in various technical projects, such as creating video surveillance suites and capturing footage of submarines and aerial filming.

In 1996, Peter joined Cine Europe/Cine Video Ltd as a Broadcast Systems Manager, where they spearheaded the introduction of electronic acquisition in TV drama. Peter also worked closely with sister company Cine Video on building a prototype truck for Sky's premiership coverage.

In 1998, Cine Europe was taken over by Panavision, and Peter continued working with the company in a new role as the Head of Digital Imaging & Electronics for Panavision Europe. In this position, they were responsible for technical management, training, problem-solving, and R&D activities. Peter played a crucial role in the introduction of digital cinematography, including system design and implementation. Additionally, Peter frequently represented the company at seminars, exhibitions, and film schools as a senior technical representative and visiting lecturer.
