Justin Slaughter

Justin Slaughter is currently the Policy Director at Paradigm. Justin has held this position since September 2021. Prior to this, they were a Senior Adviser to Chair & Director, Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs; Counsel, OCIE at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from January 2021 to September 2021. In this role, they advised Acting SEC Chair on strategic, policy and legal matters and managed the Commission’s Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, January 2021-April 2021; Provided strategic advice to Director and Acting Director of Division of Examinations, April 2021-September 2021.

From May 2017 to January 2021, Justin was a Partner at Mercury Strategies, LLC where they provided advice and consulting services on a wide range of topics, including fintech, algorithmic trading, cybersecurity, communications, and political engagement.

From October 2014 to May 2017, Justin served as the Chief Policy Adviser & Special Counsel at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission - Office of Commissioner Sharon Bowen. In this role, they provided advice on a variety of policy issues related to the derivatives markets, including swaps regulation and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.

From December 2017 to January 2021, Justin was Managing Partner at the Law Firm of Justin Slaughter PLLC where they provided legal counsel on a variety of issues, including fintech regulation, investment adviser regulation, and commodities trading.

From July 2013 to October 2014, Justin served as General Counsel to Sen. Edward J. Markey where they provided legal and policy advice on a variety of issues, including telecommunications, privacy,

Justin Slaughter graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York with a B.A. in Justin'story & Political Science. Justin then attended Georgetown University for law school and earned their J.D. After graduating from law school, Justin Slaughter worked as a lawyer at a law firm.

They are on a team with and Reena Jashnani-Slusarz - General Counsel. Their manager is Katie Biber, Chief Legal Officer.
