Marie Labbé, MA, MSc has a diverse work experience in the field of translation, language advising, and coordination. Marie began their career in 2001 as an English Instructor at Lappeenranta University of Technology. Following that, they worked as a Translator at Health Canada and as a Translator and Language Advisor at the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat. Marie then transitioned to the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, where they served in various roles including Translator, Reviser, and Coordinator. Marie continued their career at the Privy Council Office, where they worked as a Translator, Reviser, and Coordinator in the Orders-in-Council Division. Marie then returned to the Parliament of Canada as a Translator and Language Advisor. In 2010, they joined the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia as a Translator. In 2020, they took on a role as an English/French Translator, Editor, Writer, and Proofreader. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Editor/Operations and External Relations Coordinator (Hansard) at the Parliament of Canada.

Marie Labbé, MA, MSc has a diverse education history spanning various fields and disciplines. Marie began their academic journey at the University of Ottawa from 1990 to 1996, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a general focus. During this time, they also pursued a BA (Hons) in English-French Translation with a Co-op Option, further enhancing their language and translation skills.

In 1999, at the International House Budapest, Marie Labbé obtained a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). This certificate allowed their to excel as a teaching professional in the field of Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instructor. Subsequently, in 2000, they completed the Certificate of French Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA conversion scheme) at International House London, further solidifying their teaching proficiency in French as a Second or Foreign Language.

Continuing their academic journey, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Sustainable Peace in the Contemporary World at the University for Peace (UPEACE), which is UN mandated, from 2012 to 2013. This program exposed their to the interdisciplinary field of peace studies and social sciences.

From 2013 to 2014, Marie Labbé further expanded their knowledge by pursuing a Master of Science degree in Criminology and Socio-Legal Research at the University of Essex. This program delved into the field of criminology and socio-legal research, fortifying their expertise in these areas.

More recently, they engaged in further professional development by acquiring an Editing Certificate from Simon Fraser University in 2019. This certificate sharpened their skills in editing, enhancing their ability to refine written content.

Building upon their editing proficiency, Marie Labbé pursued a Plain Language Certificate from Simon Fraser University, which they are expected to complete between 2020 and 2023. This program focuses on writing and editing, honing their ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
