Jiyoo Chang

Program & Research Lead for Inclusive Research & Design at Partnership on AI

Jiyoo is the Program Lead for Inclusive Research and Design. She is focusing on both building a community on inclusive AI and participatory engagement topics and strengthening the inclusivity of programmatic and research work at the Partnership on AI. Previous to this role, she contributed to research on machine learning documentation practices as part of the ABOUT ML Initiative by leading a qualitative study with practitioners and piloting implementation projects in various organizational settings.

Prior to PAI, Jiyoo conducted research at the Institute for Human Genetics at the University of California, San Francisco, where she grew interested in the ethics of emerging technologies. At UCSF, she developed and implemented software tools to help make genomic sequencing technology more understandable to underserved communities. She has published and presented her work at conferences such as the ACM Conference on Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization, the American College of Medical Genetics, the American Society of Human Genetics, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Foundation. Jiyoo holds a B.A. in Biomedical Engineering from Dartmouth College.
