Kristin Carman

Director, Public And Patient Engagement at Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute

Kristin Carman has a diverse work experience in the field of health policy and research. Kristin has held various roles in different organizations throughout their career.

From January 2017 onwards, Carman has been serving as the Director of Public and Patient Engagement at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). In this role, they are responsible for leading and directing PCORI's efforts to involve patients and other healthcare stakeholders in all aspects of the organization's work.

Prior to joining PCORI, Carman worked at the American Institutes for Research from April 2001 to December 2017. Kristin held the position of Vice President of Health Policy and Research and led a team of over 100 health services research professionals. Kristin'sresponsibilities included conducting research on public health issues, health reform, and comparative effectiveness research. Kristin oversaw projects of various sizes, ranging from $700,000 to $10,000,000. Notably, they also led a national project for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation focused on patient and family engagement.

Before their time at the American Institutes for Research, Carman worked at the Center for Advancing Health as a Senior Researcher and Project Director from January 2000 to March 2001. Prior to that, they served as a Research Associate at the Research Triangle Institute from September 1997 to November 1999.

Overall, Carman's work experience has been focused on public and patient engagement, health policy and research, and leading multidisciplinary projects in the field of healthcare.

Kristin Carman obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Political Science from Drake University, where they studied from 1981 to 1985. Kristin pursued further education, achieving a Ph.D. in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern University, where they attended from 1987 to 1996.
