Associate Director, Research Synthesis And New Technology at Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute

Michelle Althuis has a diverse work experience in the field of epidemiology and research synthesis. Michelle is currently working as the Associate Director of Research Synthesis and New Technology at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) since 2019. Previously, they served as an Adjunct Professor at American University in 2018.

From 2008 to 2017, Michelle Althuis owned and worked as an epidemiologist at EpiContext. In this role, they were responsible for various tasks such as business development, proposal preparation, analysis, and report writing. Michelle also collaborated with public and private organizations to summarize epidemiological data with transparency. Michelle developed new tools for evidence synthesis, published methodological papers, and conducted research.

Before that, they worked at The Weinberg Group as a Senior Consultant from 2007 to 2008. Michelle'sresponsibilities included managing projects, conducting data analyses, literature reviews, and drug applications. Michelle also introduced meta-analysis as a product offering.

Michelle Althius served as an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University in 2004 and worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow at The National Cancer Institute from 2001 to 2004. Michelle'swork involved data analysis and manuscript preparation for epidemiology studies, as well as publishing several papers on the etiology of hormone-related cancers.

Michelle started their career as an Epidemiologist at Statistics Collaborative from 1999 to 2001, where they provided cost estimates, monitored projects, supervised staff, and programmed statistical models.

Michelle Althuis began their professional journey as a Principal Investigator, Project Coordinator, and Research Assistant at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine. During this time (1996-1999), they conducted a study on cancer screening behaviors among Maryland women, contributed to grantsmanship submission, study design, data collection, and analysis.

Michelle Althuis received their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Organic Chemistry from The University of Connecticut from 1988 to 1992. Michelle then pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Organic Chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University, where they studied from 1992 to 1993. Following that, Michelle pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Epidemiology from The University of Maryland, where they studied from 1996 to 1999. Most recently, they completed a Post Master's Certificate in Quantitative Methods in Applied Economics with a focus on Health Economics & Policy from the Johns Hopkins University, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, where they studied from 2015 to 2017.
