John Clawson

John Clawson started their career in 2008 as an IT Engineer at Brigham Young University. John then joined Adobe in 2015, where they worked as a Customer Success Engineer and later as a Technical Team Lead for Managed Services. In 2018, John returned to Brigham Young University as a Senior Security Engineer and eventually became the Security Engineering Manager. After leaving BYU in 2021, John joined Pattern® as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, where they established the SRE program and implemented infrastructure monitoring. John then transitioned to the role of Information Security Manager, where they built an information security program and established an international security engineering and response team. Currently, John Clawson is serving as the VP of Information Security at Pattern®, where they are responsible for herding virtual cats, building a security culture, and promoting education and enablement.

John Clawson has a strong educational background and certifications in the field of Information Technology, with a particular emphasis on security. John obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology with a Security Emphasis from Brigham Young University, where they studied from 2004 to 2013. Following their undergraduate studies, John pursued a Master's Degree in Information Technology with a Security Emphasis at Brigham Young University from 2013 to 2015.

In addition to their formal education, John has obtained multiple certifications that further enhance their expertise in the field. John is an AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, having completed this certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in March 2021. John also holds the GIAC Cloud Security Automation Certification (GCSA) from GIAC Certifications, which they earned in June 2020. John is an AWS Certified Security - Specialty professional, certified by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in February 2020.

Furthermore, John achieved the status of an AWS Academy Accredited Educator from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in August 2019. John has proven their competence in AWS by becoming an AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, obtaining this certification from Amazon Web Services in April 2018. Additionally, John holds the SSCP certification from (ISC)2 since December 2013 and the Tripwire Enterprise Professional certification acquired from Tripwire in October 2012.
