Bill Yan has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Bill has worked as a Partnership Officer at the Paul Ramsay Foundation, where they supported the for-purpose sector in creating an Australia where people can overcome disadvantage. Prior to that, they worked as a Trainer and Assessor at Charter Australia, a Registered Training Organization.

Bill also has experience as a Radio Show Host at 2CR Chinese Radio Network, where they hosted the Migrant Handbook program in Cantonese language. Bill has been involved in community work as the Co-Convener at Sydney Chinese Services Interagency and as the Operations Manager at Counterpoint Community Services INC.

Bill Yan has a diverse education history. In 1995-1996, they attended Technical Institute and received a GCE 'O' Level qualification. From 1999-2004, they studied at Singapore Polytechnic and obtained a Diploma in Business Administration. Continuing their education, they attended Griffith University from 2005-2008, where they completed a Double Degree Bachelor program in Psychological Science and Business with a focus on Human Resource Management. In 2008-2010, they pursued a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. Bill Yan further expanded their skills in various areas. In 2015, they obtained a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) with a specialization in Workforce Development and Training from Northern Beaches Community College. In 2017, they completed a Certificate in Practical Project Management from ofCourse. In 2019, they earned certificates in Social Impact Analysis and Lean Data Approaches to Measure Social Impact from +Acumen. Finally, in 2020-2021, they upgraded their certification to a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Upgrade) with a focus on Training and Assessment from Inspire Education.
