Brian Heffernan

Brian Heffernan is a data science expert currently serving as the Director of Data Science at PayPal since October 2025. Previously, Brian held multiple roles at Socure from January 2022 to June 2025, including Senior Director of Data Science and Director of Data Science. Earlier work experience includes various positions at Feedzai from June 2018 to January 2022, and a role as an Insight Data Science Fellow at Insight Data Science in 2018, during which Brian developed an innovative food detection application. Academic achievements include a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences with a focus on Auditory Neuroscience from the University of Ottawa, complemented by an MSc in Systems Science and a BScH in Mathematics from the same institution and Queen's University, respectively. Additionally, Brian has held leadership positions such as CEO at Personal Neuro Devices Inc. and has contributed to national environmental initiatives as an advisor at Environment and Climate Change Canada.
