Paul Douglas

Chairman at PCL Construction

Paul became chairman of the board of PCL Construction Holdings Ltd. in 2016 after leading the PCL family of companies as president and chief executive officer since 2009. Paul’s career has taken him across Canada since he joined PCL in 1985. He has led teams in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Ottawa, and Toronto, and has been involved in the securement and execution of landmark projects.

At a community level, Paul is a member of the Edmonton International Airport Business Advisory Committee, the World Presidents’ Organization, and is a director with the Business Council of Canada.

In 2004, Paul was given the Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) General Contractor Award of Excellence—Robert Saunders Memorial Award, in recognition of his contribution to the Canadian construction industry. In 2008, he was inaugurated into the Canadian Design-Build Institute’s College of Fellows for his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the Canadian design-build industry, and in 2012 he received the Alberta Congress Board’s Distinguished Workplace Leader Award. In 2013, Paul was awarded one of 38 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medals designated for Canadians demonstrating outstanding service in the construction industry. In 2014, he was given the CCA’s Community Leader Award on the basis of his personal service to the community. In 2015, Paul was appointed to the board of directors of the Business Council of Canada, a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization composed of Canada’s leading enterprises. In the same year, Paul was recognized for his distinguished service in support of arts and culture, community service, and sports with a City of Edmonton Salute to Excellence Citation Award. In 2015, Paul was named the Alberta Business Person of the Year by Alberta Venture magazine. Paul holds a bachelor of applied science degree in civil engineering from the University of Toronto and is a CCA Gold Seal-certified project manager.
