Bruce Appenfelder began their career in 1974 as a Building Quality Technician for Denver Public Schools. In 1977, they took on the role of 1st Assistant Manager for the McDonald's Corporation, the largest grossing McDonalds in the Rocky Mountain Region. In 1979, they became a Foreman in the Seismic Cable Department for Mitcham Exploration. In 1982, they joined IBM as a CE/SSR/CSR, where they were a Midrange IBM systems diagnosing, troubleshooting, installing, upgrading, moving, and discontinuing. Bruce also served as a Support Lead for AS400, iSeries, and Team Lead for the local team. In 2002, they joined Peak Resources as a Solutions Delivery Engineer. In 2010, they began working for the U.S. Census Bureau as a Census Taker, going to various homes to obtain census information.

Bruce Appenfelder obtained an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Electronic Technology from the Denver Institute of Technology between 1980 and 1981. Bruce also obtained an Associate of Science - Electronics Technology in Industrial Electronics Technology/Technician from the Denver Institute of Technology between 1980 and 1981. In 2019, they obtained a Server+ certification from CompTIA. In 2013, they obtained an IBM Certified Specialist - System x Server Family Technical Support V1 certification from IBM. Bruce also has an HP Accredited Technical Professional Server Solutions V2 certification from HP.
