Michael Harris started their career as a Technical Manager at Spark and Cannon in 1998. Michael was responsible for implementing and managing the Microsoft-based operating environment, managing a 50-node LAN, and system administration of the Linux server. In 2001, they joined RMIT University as an Operations Manager for the African Virtual University Project. Michael also worked as a Lecturer, teaching various web technologies.
In 2007, Michael joined MYOB as a Senior Software Engineer for a brief period before moving to the Australian Council for Educational Research, where they worked as a Software Engineer. Michael later became a Senior Software Engineer at Habari in 2008, where they were a part of the Project Management Committee, coding, advocating, testing, documenting, and supporting the project until 2013.
From 2013 to 2019, Michael worked at GitHub as the GitHub Enterprise Support Manager for the Asia Pacific region. Michael then transitioned to the role of Red Shirt, where they stayed until 2015. After that, they joined the Australian Council for Educational Research as a Senior Software Engineer until 2013.
Most recently, Michael has been employed at Peatix since 2020. Michael started as a Senior Engineering Manager and was later promoted to Director of Engineering and currently holds the position of Senior Director of Engineering.
Michael Harris has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Melbourne, which they obtained from 1991 to 1994. Michael then pursued a Master of Technology degree in Internet and Web Technology at RMIT University, from 2000 to 2003. Following this, Michael completed their education with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, specializing in the Effective Retrieval of Digital Material for Teaching and Learning, also at RMIT University, from 2004 to 2010.
