Curtis served as the President of Children's Healthcare Network from 2001 to 2009.

Earlier in their career, Dr. Pickert worked at Wesley Medical Center as the Medical Director of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics from 1993 to 2001. Curtis also worked as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine - Wichita from 1998 to 2001, and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the same institution from 1993 to 1998.

Dr. Pickert began their medical career as a Clinical Instructor and Fellow in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Arkansas Children's Hospital from 1990 to 1993. Overall, their work experience spans various leadership and teaching roles in pediatric medicine.

Curtis Pickert M.D. completed their Bachelor's Degree in Science - Biology at Emporia State University in 1980. Curtis then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating in 1984. From 1984 to 1987, they completed a Pediatric Residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Curtis furthered their specialization in pediatrics by completing a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in 1987. Following this, they pursued a Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Arkansas Children's Hospital from 1990 to 1993.
