Erik Johnson

Vice President- Primary Care Services at Pediatrix Medical Group

Erik Johnson, MD, CPE, FAAP has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of pediatrics. Erik began their career as a pediatrician at Columbia Pediatrics from 1998 to 2000. Erik then joined The Medical Care Group, Ltd. as a pediatrician and also served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2015. During their tenure, they streamlined medical care and support for patients and led a group of 22 physicians in pediatrics and internal medicine.

In 2014, Dr. Johnson joined AMITA Health as the Medical Director of Pediatric Services, where they played a key role in uniting pediatric services across nine acute care hospitals. Erik implemented innovative strategies to reduce readmission rates and expanded outpatient services. From 2018 to 2019, they served as the Vice President of Medical Affairs for Pediatric Service Line, where they successfully improved access to specialty care and identified effective service rationalization models.

Dr. Johnson then transitioned to AMITA Health Medical Care Group as a pediatrician from 2015 to 2019. During their time there, they focused on improving the health and well-being of children, with a particular emphasis on adolescent care, ADHD, school performance, obesity prevention, and sports health. Erik consistently achieved high patient satisfaction ratings and expanded the availability and coverage of services.

In 2020, Dr. Johnson joined UnitedHealthcare as the Market Chief Medical Officer for Employer and Individual in Illinois. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing medical operations and ensuring quality care for members. Erik held this position until 2023.

Most recently, Dr. Johnson assumed the role of Vice President of Primary Care Services at Pediatrix Medical Group in 2023. In this leadership role, they oversee primary care services, ensuring high-quality care for patients.

Erik Johnson, MD, CPE, FAAP completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry at Benedictine University. Erik then pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Following their medical degree, they completed a Residency in Pediatrics at UC Irvine. Later, they obtained additional certifications including being a Board Certified physician by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1998 and becoming a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) through the American Association for Physician Leadership™ in 2020. Erik Johnson further expanded their knowledge by completing the "Core: Credential of Readiness" program at Harvard Business School Online. Currently, they are pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which is expected to be completed in 2023.
