Serge O

Sr Data Solutions Engineer-AI and Data Practices at Penguin Solutions

Serge O. has a diverse work experience in the fields of data solutions engineering, academia, health data science, and physics. Currently, they are serving as a Sr Data Solutions Engineer-AI and Data Practices at Penguin Computing. In this role, they leverage their expertise in AI and data practices to contribute to the company's success.

Before joining Penguin Computing, Serge worked as a Lecturer at California State University - East Bay from 2014 to 2021. During this time, they taught physics and regression modeling to undergraduate and pre-med students. Serge actively collaborated with researchers from other universities on projects involving the development of a neutron imaging detection system. Additionally, they were responsible for creating educational materials, teaching computational skills to students, and assessing their projects and assignments.

Prior to their teaching position, Serge served as a Health Data Science Fellow at Insight Data Science from 2020 to 2021. Their primary responsibility was to consult with iSono Health and develop a text mining algorithm that could extract relevant information from unstructured medical notes embedded within ultrasound images. By utilizing NLP and heuristic methods, Serge successfully retrieved breast lesion attributes and generated automated medical reports summarizing the findings.

Serge's earlier experience includes working as a Physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2009 to 2014. During this time, they focused on designing machine learning frameworks and implementing Bayesian statistics to enhance various aspects of nuclear research. Their achievements included developing unsupervised machine learning algorithms to analyze radiation pulses, improving isotopes identification using Non-Destructive Assay techniques, and creating statistical tools for predicting time-correlated signatures of fissile materials to improve detection.

Serge O. has a strong background in physics, with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physics from Louisiana State University. Serge completed their PhD program from 2001 to 2008.

In 2019, Serge pursued further education by completing a Nanodegree in Self Driving Car from Udacity.

Additionally, Serge acquired two certifications. In December 2020, they obtained the "Introduction to AI in the Data Center" certification from NVIDIA, as well as the "NVIDIA DLI Certificate – Fundamentals of Accelerated Data Science with RAPIDS" certification, also from NVIDIA.
