Marianne Cumming

Marianne Cumming has extensive work experience in the insurance and financial industry. Marianne is currently serving as the Vice President and Chief Medical Director at Penn Mutual since April 2022. Prior to that, from November 2018 to April 2022, they held the position of Chief Medical Director at Securian Financial.

Marianne has also held significant roles at Swiss Re, starting as the Vice President and Medical Director in September 2002. Marianne progressed to become the Senior Vice President and Global Head Life Guide from October 2015 to November 2016. From November 2016 to June 2017, they served as the Senior Vice President and Head Global Life & Health Underwriting. In their final role at Swiss Re, they were the Senior Vice President and Head Global Life & Health Underwriting Solutions from June 2017 to November 2018.

In addition to their corporate roles, Marianne Cumming has also been actively involved in the industry organization, American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM), where they served as President from October 2018 to October 2019.

Earlier in their career, they worked at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans as the Associate Medical Director from October 2000 to August 2002, and at Securian Financial as the Assistant Medical Director from July 1997 to July 2000.

With their diverse experience, Marianne Cumming has gained expertise in the fields of medical underwriting, health and life insurance, and leadership in the insurance industry.

Marianne Cumming holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Manitoba, where they also obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Pharmacology and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Pharmacy. Marianne has additional certifications including Fellow, American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM), Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU), Diplomate, Board of Insurance Medicine (DBIM), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), and Medical Licenses from the College Physicians and Surgeons Ontario (CPSO) and the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana.
