James Stewart began their work experience in 1995 as a Family Lawyer at Stephenson Harwood LLP, where they specialized in international family law and worked with overseas offices. In 2000, they became the Head of Family Law Department at RPC-law firm and was recognized as the youngest Head of a Chambers and Legal 500 rated Family Law department. In 2006, they joined Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP as a Partner in the Family Department, co-heading the Private Wealth Sector and becoming an internationally recognized family lawyer. In 2010, they conceived and edited the Practical Law Family Global Guide, known as the "Blue Book," which has become Thomson Reuters' leading international family law publication. Most recently, in 2020, they took on the role of Visiting Professor of Law at Ulster University, where they contribute to the stimulating and pioneering research conducted by the School of Law.
James Stewart attended Coleraine Academical Institution from 1975 to 1983. James then attended the University of Essex from 1984 to 1987, where they obtained a LLB degree in Law. After that, they went on to The University of Law from 1987 to 1988 to complete their Solicitor's Final Examinations. James Stewart holds additional certifications which include being an Arbitrator from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators since February 2015, a Solicitor in Northern Ireland since January 2012, a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers since September 2009, a Collaborative Family Lawyer from Resolution - First for Family Law since September 2003, and a Solicitor in England & Wales since February 1990.
