Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the physical plant in collaboration with the Facilities Department. This role includes responsibility for building systems repairs, preventative maintenance, and supporting organizational commitments to equity and inclusion.

Work Schedule:

  • Standard Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 7 AM to 3 PM.
  • Flexibility: Additional hours, holidays, and shifts as required.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Engineering Department, including personnel supervision, scheduling, and goal setting.
  • Operate and maintain HVAC equipment, including large-scale chillers, heat exchangers, air handlers, and cooling towers.
  • Develop and execute a proactive preventive maintenance (PM) program.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance System to manage work orders and asset information.
  • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and fire life safety systems.
  • Assist with minor carpentry, painting, and general facility repairs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities to review schedules, projects, and facility conditions.
  • Oversee engineering personnel and contractors on projects and tasks.
  • Conduct pre-checks of event spaces and respond to unscheduled maintenance calls.
  • Complete work orders, tasks, and other assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years in a similar role, preferably in Performing Arts, Theatrical, or Multi-Use Venues.
  • Certifications: Must have or obtain Q01 Refrigeration, Sprinkler, Standpipes, and Air Compressors within six months.
  • Proficient knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and chilled water systems operations.
  • Skilled in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical repairs; advanced skills in one area preferred.
  • Familiarity with NYC building/fire codes, HAZMAT, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, and weekends.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Office use.
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Union Membership: Must join Local #32 B/J of the SEIU after a 60-day probationary period.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: $45.74/hr. (Non-Exempt, per 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement).
