Known as the Heart of Illinois, Peoria County is at the center of a multi-county region along the Illinois River. It has a population of 181,830 (census 2020). 

Peoria County administration is located in the Peoria County Courthouse. Other large facilities include the Peoria County Sheriff's Office, Election Commission, Veterans Assistance Commission, Peoria County Animal Control Services, Highway Department, and the City/County Health Department.
