Michel Vounatsos

Mr. Vounatsos is the Chief Executive Officer of Biogen Inc., a publicly-traded company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, having served in this position and been a member of Biogen’s board of directors since 2017. Prior to joining Biogen in April 2016 as Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Vounatsos spent twenty years at Merck & Co., Inc., a pharmaceutical company, where he most recently served as President, Primary Care, Customer Business Line and Merck Customer Centricity. In this role, Mr. Vounatsos led Merck’s global primary care business unit, encompassing Merck’s cardiology-metabolic, general medicine, women’s health and biosimilars groups and developed and instituted a strategic framework for enhancing the company’s relationships with key constituents, including the most significant providers, payers and retailers and the world’s largest governments. Mr. Vounatsos previously held leadership positions across Europe and in China for Merck. Prior to that, Mr. Vounatsos held management positions at Ciba-Geigy, a pharmaceutical company. Mr. Vounatsos currently serves on the advisory board of Tsinghua University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, on the Supervisory Board of Liryc, the Electrophysiology and Heart Modeling Institute at the University of Bordeaux, on the board of directors of N-Lorem Foundation and as a member of the MIT Presidential CEO Advisory Board. Mr. Vounatsos received his C.S.C.T. certificate in Medicine from the Universite Victor Segalen, Bordeaux II, France, and his M.B.A. from the HEC School of Management in Paris.

Mr. Vounatsos joins our board with significant knowledge and broad-based experience with respect to the biotechnology, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, a comprehensive global leadership background resulting from service as an executive in the pharmaceutical industry and his educational background in medicine and business. Mr. Vounatsos also brings valuable leadership skills gained as the chief executive officer of a publicly-traded multinational organization.
