Douglas M. Campbell

Douglas has always found inspiration in the built environment, whether working on century-old structures or new, mixed-use buildings. From the development of a dense, urban, walkable neighborhood at the District Wharf to historic restorations/adaptions, he has focused on the challenge of bridging the gap between the ideal of design and the realities of budget and construction. Early experiences in building in the City of Alexandria, Virginia, were important in learning about exotic foundation systems and techniques, which would prove to be critical in executing below-grade structures above the city-scale buildings at the water’s edge of the District Wharf. Creating unit designs for urban mid-rise buildings informed later work on senior living projects, as these types of buildings increasingly moved away from suburban areas and into dense, urban environments.
