Nael El Shawwa

Nael El Shawwa is the current head of engineering at Perpetua. Nael has previously worked at Layla, Plato, and Shutterstock. At Shutterstock, they were the VP of engineering from January 2017 to December 2020. Nael oversaw the product & engineering team of about 20 people, and was responsible for integrating the workflow and processes with the larger product & engineering organization, doubling the size of the team in 6 months, and implementing an aggressive 3-year re-platforming strategy. Nael also coached and mentored engineers and engineering managers through their professional journeys.

Nael El Shawwa has a Masters of Computational Engineering and Sciences from McMaster University, a Software Engineering and Management B.Eng.Mgmt from McMaster University, and is an altMBA35 Ruby Cohort graduate from altMBA. Nael also has certification from Shutterstock in Innovator of the Year (2018), Scrum Alliance in Certified ScrumMaster, Design Cofounders - Cfndrs in Applied Design Thinking, and Google in Ceritified Google JavaScript Maps API Developer.
