Sean Stromberg has a diverse and extensive work experience in the fields of computational biology, data science, and software engineering. Sean is currently serving as the Director of Computational Biology and Data Science at Persephone Biosciences since March 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of Software at 1859 Inc from June 2019 to April 2022, where they were involved in developing software related to cowboy-themed activities. Before that, they worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Singular Genomics from June 2018 to June 2019, where they led a team in the development of a data-analysis pipeline for DNA sequencing. From 2015 to 2018, Sean served as a Senior Software Engineer at Omniome, contributing to the development of DNA sequencing technologies and instrumental control software. Sean began their professional career as an Engineering Scientist at Intellisis from December 2013 to June 2015, where they worked on diverse projects ranging from software benchmarks evaluation to neurologically inspired algorithms. Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Santa Barbara and Emory University, conducting research in complex systems and immunology. Sean's academic journey includes being a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Santa Barbara from 2003 to 2009, where they conducted research in complex systems and high-energy physics. Additionally, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at UC Santa Barbara from 2002 to 2003, providing guidance to students in advanced laboratory courses. Sean started their career as a Materials Scientist/Engineer at Berkeley Lab from 2001 to 2002, where they worked on semiconductor-based radiation detectors. Throughout their career, Sean has contributed to numerous publications in various scientific domains.
Sean Stromberg completed their education in a chronological order. Sean obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1998 to 2000. Following this, they pursued a Ph.D. in Physics from UC Santa Barbara, completing it from 2002 to 2009. In 2000, Sean also participated in a Summer Research Program in Chemical and Materials Physics at UC Irvine. In 2007, they attended the Boulder School for Condensed Matter and Materials Physics, completing a Summer School program in Biological Physics.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Sean Stromberg also acquired certifications in the field of software and project management. In 2016, they obtained a certification in "Software Processes and Agile Practices" from Coursera Course Certificates. Sean also obtained a certification in "Introduction to Software Product Management" from the same institution in 2016.
