Garry Witt

Garry Witt is the SVP & General Counsel, Retail at Peterson Companies. Garry has over 25 years of experience in the legal field, specializing in retail and real estate.

Garry Witt started their legal career in 1984 as an entry level attorney with Melvin Simon & Associates. Over the course of nine years, they were promoted to the position of senior staff development attorney, reporting directly to the General Counsel. During their time with Melvin Simon & Associates, Garry held numerous positions within the legal department, providing legal services to property management, small shop leasing, outlot and pad site leasing and development, site development and acquisition, REAs and other development and land use documentation, anchor and major department store occupancy agreements, project financing, partnership and joint venture agreements, and the sale and acquisition of operating properties.

In August 1993, Garry Witt joined The Goodman Company as General Counsel. Garry provided all in-house legal services to the company and negotiated all legal documentation in connection with the company’s upscale Worth Avenue properties, power centers, grocery store anchored strip centers, enclosed malls, and the company’s 1 million square foot twin tower Class A office building with attached parking structures. Garry also established strategy and directed land use counsel in navigating the permitting process for the company’s retail projects. Garry oversaw and coordinated all insurance defense and commercial litigation.

Garry Witt attended DePauw University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Political Science. Garry then went on to Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis to earn their Doctor of Law (J.D.).
