Principal Geophysicist at PGS

Alex Goertz has a strong background in geophysics, with experience in various roles and companies. They have worked as a Principal Geophysicist at PGS since 2023. Prior to that, they spent five years at OCTIO Gravitude as a Senior Geophysicist, where they were involved in the development and commercialization of real-time drill-bit seismic applications. They also managed projects for acquiring and processing drill-bit seismic data. Before joining OCTIO Gravitude, Alex worked at PGS from 2012 to 2018, first as a Chief Geophysicist Optoseis, focusing on the development and commercialization of fiber-optic seismic systems, and later as a Section Manager, leading a team and managing seismic modeling and marine survey design tools. They also have experience as a Senior Researcher at the Swiss Seismological Service, where they worked on fault zone imaging and geothermal site characterization. Earlier in their career, Alex worked as a Principal Geophysicist at Spectraseis and as a Staff Geophysicist at Paulsson Geophysical Services, where they conducted 3D VSP projects and worked on R&D projects related to seismic monitoring and survey design. They also have postdoctoral research experience at Freie Universitaet Berlin. Overall, Alex has a diverse range of experience in geophysics, with expertise in multiple areas such as seismic technology development, data acquisition, project management, and research.

Alex Goertz has a PhD in Geophysics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 1991 to 2002. From 1994 to 1995, they attended Oregon State University for Geophysics, but did not complete a degree.
