Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Phase Four, you will play a central and critical role in our core technology. As Phase Four continues to deliver its RF Thrusters to government and commercial customers, you will work to help the team scale our efforts within the electric propulsion market. This role requires candidate to be on-site at our Hawthorne, CA, location.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, optimize, build, and test of critical spacecraft and ground support electronics
  • EE disciplines covered include embedded systems, data handling, sensor interfacing, and power electronics
  • Start to finish PCB design, including requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification (power-on, functional / acceptance / qualification testing) and release to production.
  • Environmental and EMI/EMC testing, and spaceflight readiness testing on all components
  • Interface with scientists and engineers across the company and with external companies and organizations.

Minimum Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of electrical systems development.
  • Knowledge of high speed analog, digital, and mixed signal design, simulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with avionics design, fabrication, test, qualification and delivery
  • Experience with MCUs and digital communication (UART/RS422/SPI) for space environments and applications.
  • Demonstrated ability in schematic capture and layout of PCBs with optimizations for speed, noise mitigation, thermal management, and manufacturability.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering our Related Field 
  • Familiar with programming languages C and Python.
  • Experience with radiation testing of electronic prototypes.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing of aerospace hardware.
  • Experience with Altium PCB Designer
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing startup environment.

Salary Range

  • $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per annum.

Our Interview Process:

We understand that interviewing is an art that takes time on both sides of the spectrum. Phase Four's interview process is as follows:

  1. Phone Interview with our Recruiting Team - 15-30 minutes - Where we learn about you, your experience, and what you're looking for in a new role, as well as give you a chance to learn about us, the role, and any questions you may have. If progressing to next step;
  2. Video Interview with the Hiring Manager - 30 minutes - This interview reviews the technical aspects of the role as well as your technical background. This is a great time for both you and the hiring manager to get more in depth about the expectations and technical mindset needed for the role. If progressing to next step;
  3. 'Challenge Question' + In-Person Interview - 90-120 minutes - You will be given a technical question to work through that relates to the role to present during the In-Person interview at our office. Also during this time, you'll get to meet our team, tour our facility, and see what we do at Phase Four!  If progressing to next step;
  4. Offer Stage!
