Jan Wery has extensive experience in the biotechnology industry. Jan began their career in 1997 as a Post-doctoral Researcher at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where they researched genetics of solvent-tolerance in bacteria and microbial production of industrial chemicals. From 2000 to 2002, they worked as a Senior Researcher in Biotechnology at Friesland Foods in the Netherlands. Jan then moved to the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), where they served as Group Leader of Bioconversion from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, they became the Director of Research & Development at Dyadic International, Inc., where they were responsible for industrial fungal strain and enzyme development. From 2013 to 2019, they worked at Corbion as Technical Lead Biobased Innovations and Technical Program Manager. In 2019, they became Cofounder & Advisor of FeedstocksUnited, an industrial biotechnology start-up. In 2021, they joined Photanol as Chief Technology Officer, and they also became Vice President of the Dutch Biotechnology Association (NBV).
Jan Wery obtained their MSc in Biology and Molecular Biology from Wageningen University & Research in 1986-1991. From 1992-1997, they pursued their PhD in Microbiology and Yeast Genetics at Wageningen University & Research. In 1992, they also studied Viral Molecular Biology at Stony Brook University. In 1997, they studied Bacterial genetics and genetics of solvent-tolerance at Rutgers University.
