Serrah Russell is a Seattle-based visual artist and independent curator, currently serving as a visual artist at Serrah Russell Studio since May 2009 and as adjunct faculty at Photographic Center Northwest since April 2016. Russell's artistic practice focuses on collage and appropriation, exploring the dynamics between internal emotions and external environments. As an independent curator, Russell has organized numerous exhibitions, including "At the Edge of Both" at Seattle Pacific University Art Center and "Just Visiting" at SOIL Gallery, among others. Past experiences include curatorial roles for the Bill and Ruth True Foundation and Violet Strays, along with UX design for the Pacific Northwest Black Pride Festival and art direction at Prints.ly. Russell holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Washington and completed additional coursework at General Assembly in 2018.
