Francis Afzal

Francis Afzal serves as the Team Lead and Principal Photonic Device Engineer at Photonic Inc. since May 2022, leading the integrated photonics design team. Prior experience includes roles as Principal Device Engineer at GLOBALFOUNDRIES from April 2019 to May 2022, where responsibilities included overseeing silicon photonics device development and contributing to collaborative research under the NSF GOALI program. Additional roles encompass significant internships and research positions, including Graduate Research Assistant at Vanderbilt University and various undergraduate research roles. Francis holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, complementing an undergraduate degree in Physics and Mathematics from Truman State University.
