Gavin O'Connor has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Gavin started their career as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth in 1997. Gavin then joined LGC Limited in 1998 and held various roles, including Organic Mass Spectrometerist, Senior R&D Scientist, Team Leader Bio-Organic Mass Spectrometry, and Principal Scientist in Mass Spectrometry. At LGC, they had strategic oversight of projects and represented the UK in international metrology comparisons. In 2013, O'Connor moved to the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, where they worked on standards for food biosciences and later became the Team Leader for Food Allergen Measurements. Their work involved collaboration with various stakeholders in policy support and management of food allergens. In 2018, they joined both the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB as the Head of Department-Biochemistry and the Technical University of Braunschweig as a Professor of Biochemical Metrology.
Gavin O'Connor began their education at HFDLS Skerries from 1985 to 1990, although no specific degree or field of study is mentioned. Gavin then attended the Technology University of the Shannon, Athlone Campus from 1990 to 1993, where they obtained a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry. Following that, from 1993 to 1994, they attended Staffordshire University and earned a BSc (Hons) in Analytical Chemistry. Gavin's educational journey continued at the University of Plymouth, where they pursued a PhD in Analytical Chemistry-Mass Spectrometry from 1994 to 1998.
