Karsten Baumann is a seasoned expert in air quality and aerosol technologies, currently serving as a Field Application Scientist at Picarro, Inc. since December 2021. Prior to this role, Baumann held the position of Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from July 2017 to November 2021, focusing on indoor air quality and multi-phase reactions on surfaces. Additional experience includes a Visiting Research Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, where research centered on nitro- and oxy-PAHs in ultra-fine particles, along with significant contributions as Lab Director and Senior Scientist at Atmospheric Research & Analysis, Inc., and as a Senior Research Engineer at RTI International and Georgia Tech, directing research on aerosol chemistry and air quality. Baumann began the academic journey with a PhD in Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, obtained in 1992.
