Larry McKenzie has a diverse work experience in various roles related to education, coaching, and leadership. Larry has served as the Interim Director of the Office of Public Charter Schools at Pillsbury United Communities since 2012, where they have been responsible for overseeing charter schools and maintaining relationships with external partners. Prior to this, they worked as the President/CEO of Coach Seminar and Consulting, LLC, where they organized workshops and promoted athletics as an educational tool. McKenzie has also worked as a Head Coach for basketball teams at Minneapolis North Community High School and Academy of the Holy Angels. Additionally, they have experience as a Dean of Students at The Best Academy and as the General Manager/Head Coach of the Minnesota Ripknees basketball franchise. Earlier in their career, they served as the Executive Director of Hospitality House Youth Directions and as the Head Coach for boys' basketball teams at Minneapolis Patrick Henry and Right Step Academy.

Larry McKenzie attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls from 1975 to 1980, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Political Science and Government. In 2019, they enrolled in Sports Management Worldwide and received a certification in Basketball GM and Scouting in November 2019. Larry also pursued further education in Sports Leadership at Concordia University Chicago from 2021 to 2023, working towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Additionally, Larry obtained several certifications, including Sports Administration from Sports Management Worldwide in May 2021, eSpeaker Certified Virtual Presenter from eSpeakers in May 2021, and a NABC 20 Year Milestone Certificate from the National Association of Basketball Coaches in 2021.
