Roman Hillje has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Roman started their career as a Research Assistant at Technische Universität Braunschweig in 2013 and then moved on to work as a Scientist for the iGEM Team TU Braunschweig in the same year. In 2015, they became a Medical Sales Representative at Quintiles but transitioned to working as a Climbing Instructor at Escaladrome in 2016. Roman also worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Zurich in the same year. From 2018 to 2019, Roman served as a member of the ENABLE 2019 Scientific Organizing Committee, organizing a biomedical symposium. From 2016 to 2020, they pursued their PhD in Computational Biology at IEO Istituto Europeo di Oncologia. During that time, they were involved in several projects related to aging and oncology. In 2020, they joined The Hyve as a Software Engineer and Open Targets Specialist, where they worked on customizing, deploying, and maintaining installations of the Open Targets Platform and the Open Targets Genetics Portal. Roman developed ETL pipelines, set up and customized backend services, enhanced front ends, and deployed the full stack to cloud infrastructure. In 2023, Roman joined PipeBio as a Software Engineer.

Roman Hillje has a strong educational background in the field of biology and computational biology. Roman obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computational Biology from Università degli Studi di Milano from 2016 to 2020. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from Technische Universität Braunschweig from 2012 to 2015. Roman'seducational journey started with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from the same institution from 2009 to 2012.
