Vangelis Tsekrekos has an extensive work experience in the field of compliance and finance. Vangelis currently holds the position of Senior Director, Group Compliance at Piraeus Bank since October 2019. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Compliance Officer at Praxia Bank from September 2018 to October 2019. From July 2013 to June 2018, they worked as the Head of Compliance at the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund. Before that, they held various roles at BNP Paribas, including Head of Territory Compliance (Greece) and Senior Compliance Officer at BNP Paribas Athens. Vangelis also worked as the Head of International Affairs Department (Post trade) at Hellenic Exchanges SA from April 2005 to December 2006 and as Responsible for International Relations & Marketing Research at Central Securities Depository SA from September 2000 to April 2005. Early in their career, they worked as a journalist at Labrakis Media Corporation SA/ "Oikonomikos Tahidromos".

Vangelis Tsekrekos has a diverse education history. Vangelis obtained their Bachelor's degree in Law from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1993. In 1997, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Communication and Mass Media from Université catholique de Louvain. Following this, they attended Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon from 2003 to 2004, where they earned a Master of Science degree in Communication and Mass Media. Finally, from 2004 to 2006, they studied at Athens University of Economics and Business, completing an Executive MBA program. In addition to their formal education, Tsekrekos has obtained several certifications, including being a CEDR Accredited Mediator, Certified Compliance Officer, and completing the 'Advanced Certificate in Compliance & Financial Crime' program.
