Dean Malmgren

Dean Malmgren has over a decade of experience in the technology and data science industries. Dean began their career in 2004 as a PhD Candidate at Northwestern University. In 2008, they became a Research Intern at Yahoo!, followed by a Co-founder, Partner, and Data Scientist at Datascope Analytics, LLC in 2009. In 2013, they became an Advisory Board Member for NUvention Analytics at Northwestern University, as well as a Volunteer Mentor for Data Science for Social Good. In 2014, they became an Advisor for Metis New Economy Skills Training, and an Entrepreneurial Advisory Board Member for the School of Information at the University of Michigan. In 2016, they Co-founded Elemetric, and in 2017 they became a Partner and Executive Director at IDEO. In 2023, they became the Chief Technology Officer at Planet FWD. During their time at IDEO, they led an initiative to make the company net zero and reduce emissions aligned with the Paris Agreement, as well as starting a new Market Intelligence function. Dean also developed a strategy to grow data science capability globally, and retained the Datascope team, doubling the number of data scientists globally through three years.

Dean Malmgren received a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a BS in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 2003. Dean then went on to pursue a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Northwestern University, which they completed in 2009.
